Atlético

A professional Spanish football club from the city of Madrid. It was founded on April 26, 1903 under the name Athletic Club de Madrid. It received its current name on October 4, 1939. One of the most successful football clubs in Spain: ten-time winners of the Spanish championship (most recently in 2013/14) and the Copa del Rey, and three-time winners of the Spanish Super Cup.

Atletico is the winner of the 2007 Intertoto Cup. In the 1961–1962 season, they won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, defeating Fiorentina in the final. The following season (1962–1963), Atletico lost to Tottenham in the final of the same tournament. In the 1985–1986 season, the "wolves" lost the Cup Winners' Cup final to Dynamo Kyiv. The Madrid team failed to beat Bayern Munich in the 1973-1974 European Cup final. However, in 1974 they won the Intercontinental Cup.

Atletico, in addition to its football successes, is one of the record holders in Spain for the number of tickets sold and advertising revenue.

Luis Aragones and Fernando Torres played for Atletico.

Since 2017, the club's new arena has been the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
