AS Roma
A professional Italian football club from Rome. It plays in the top division of the Italian championship, Serie A. It plays its home matches at the Olympic Stadium, which it shares with Lazio. The Stadio Olimpico is the second largest stadium in Italy (second only to Milan's San Siro).
It was founded on July 22, 1927. Since the 1952/53 season, the club has not left Serie A, and it has 3 Italian championship titles to its name: in the 1941-42, 1982-83 and 2000-01 seasons. In addition, Roma is a nine-time winner of the Coppa Italia, having won its last title in 2008.
Although Roma is one of the strongest clubs in the Italian championship, its participation in European cups has not been as successful. In 1961, Roma won its only official international trophy, the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, beating England's Birmingham City 4:2 on aggregate.
In the final of the 1983-84 European Cup, Roma lost to England's Liverpool in a penalty shootout. In 1991, Roma again played in the UEFA Cup final. It was beaten 2:1 on aggregate by Inter Milan.
